Here comes Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots and here comes a star NFL player to Foxborough!

Did you really think Belichick would sit back and watch almost every team in the AFC bolster their rosters without the Patriots taking over headlines come the 2022 NFL Draft?

Well, this is a wild and very bold prediction, but it won’t be the New York Jets landing Deebo Samuel, it will be the Patriots.

As much as the team values draft capital, there will be a unique opportunity here to take care of one of their biggest needs in the draft.

2022 NFL Draft shocker! New England Patriots trade pick No. 21 for Deebo Samuel

The cheaper option obviously is select one of the talented wide receivers in this year’s draft, but Patriots fans have certainly been there before, so why not go for a player who would certainly change the dynamics of the offense and give Mac Jones that No. 1 target that will also make him better.

The trade will obviously involve more than just the No. 21 pick.  Throw a mid-round pick (No. 158 acquired in the deal for DeVante Parker) and a future high-round pick along with a player or two (heck, send N’Keal Harry to the San Francisco 49ers).  If the Patriots want Samuel, they will have to outbid some other teams, but as NFL.com outlines, New England is a hungry spot for a hungry player:

"“What’s a “receiver landing spots” list without New England? For years, every available wideout has been connected to the Patriots in one form or another. Why stop now? Bill Belichick opened the purse strings last offseason, and while he rarely shells out for offensive weapons, perhaps snagging Samuel is the delayed cherry on top of the initial spending spree. The wideout would immediately give Mac Jones a true WR1 who wins regularly and fits the versatility Belichick desires in his players.”"

That is what every New England Patriots fan would love to see.

But, realistically when it comes to Thursday night’s Day 1 of the 2022 NFL Draft, the Patriots can go in a number of directions.  They could trade out of the first round completely, which is most people’s bets, they could uncharacteristically trade up or stand pat to fill the needs of several positions that include cornerback, wide receiver, linebacker or the offensive line.

Players to watch include University of Georgia linebacker Quay Walker, University of Michigan safety Dax Hill, University of Florida linebacker Kaiir Elam, Boston College offensive lineman Zion Johnson and Texas A&M offensive lineman Keyon Green.

Of course, when it comes to Bill Belichick there is always the chance he will select someone at a position no one is expecting.  There is also the chance that he shocks the 2022 NFL Draft headlines and do the unthinkable.  That unthinkable would be using that pick in a package for Deebo Samuel.

Stay tuned.
