If the New England Patriots want to have a successful 2022 season, it is going to start and end with their second-year quarterback Mac Jones. It was very clear that Jones had some things to work on this offseason after a tough playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills back in January. Some of the things on that list involved relatively simple tasks: get in a little bit better shape, get the arm stronger, and maybe even get faster.

Well, now it is time for OTAs and we’ve now seen Jones after a few months of offseason work. If seeing and hearing Mac Jones can tell us Patriots fans anything, it’s that some things have changed for the better.

The New England Patriots have a skinnier quarterback in Mac Jones

One of the things that people mentioned about Jones last year was his build. It’s not that Jones was necessarily fat, but he wasn’t exactly rocking a six-pack underneath his shirt either. That seems to no longer be the case as multiple teammates, including wide receiver Kendrick Bourne, have said that it looks like his stomach is gone.

This is a good sign for the Patriots. It shows that Jones truly does care about his body and becoming the best version of himself. Jones could’ve been a quarterback that was content with his rookie season and not done as much going into his sophomore campaign.

But Mac didn’t take it that way. In fact, he took his off-season conditioning very seriously. You have to be through the roof excited to hear that Mac is working to improve on his body. This is a great sign for the Patriots heading into 2022. Which leads into another notable tidbit from OTAs.

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones working with Tom House

We’ve heard the name Tom before in New England. This time, it isn’t Tom Brady though. It’s Tom House.

Tom House is a well-known quarterbacks coach that has worked with quarterbacks like, Matt Ryan, Dak Prescott, and of course, Brady himself. Those are some quality names to be working with throughout their careers!

And now, Mac Jones has been working with House as well. I’m sure the House has some tricks and tidbits that will continue to help Jones progress in year two of his NFL career. Patriots fans, including myself, are ecstatic about Mac pulling out all of the stops to be even better in 2022. Including getting in work with his wide receivers!

New England Patriots receivers getting work in

The Patriots wide receivers were able to get some early work in doing OTAs. Several receivers like DeVante Parker, Jakobi Meyers, and Kendrick Bourne were getting some work in with Mac Jones. Look, we all know that Jones still has a lot to prove in year two of his (hopefully) long Patriots career.

But the bottom line is that Jones and the Patriots know what they need to do to get back to the playoffs. It all starts with the work that they are doing in OTAs. Getting on the same page with the wide receiving crew is so crucial for the Patriots, especially in a now loaded AFC.

Next. Mac Jones with a lot to prove in year two. dark

Bottom line, I love what I saw and heard out of Mac Jones’ yesterday. It’s only OTAs, but it still gets the mouth watering for football season around the corner. Plus, if Jones takes a big step forward in 2022 with his new look and tactics; that’s a good sign for the future of the New England Patriots!
