New England Patriots free agent target No. 2: Kevin King

Again, cornerback may be more of a want than a need at this point, but it feels like the Pats are heading into 2022 woefully thin at the position. After losing J.C. Jackson to the Los Angeles Chargers in free agency, New England hasn’t really brought in anyone to replace him. Of course, no one can really replace Jackson, but Malcolm Butler and Terrance Mitchell aren’t going to cut it.

Kevin King stands out as an intriguing potential option who could come in and fill the starting role alongside Jalen Mills. King is widely known as the guy who got burned by Tom Brady and Scotty Miller in the 2021 NFC Championship Game, which promptly resulted in him getting run out of Green Bay by angry Packers fans.

King hasn’t been all that good to start his career, and a change of scenery could certainly benefit him. He’s a long and fast corner who just can’t seem to avoid making bad reads or plays consistently. That’s something Bill Belichick could certainly help out with.

King has a ton of potential, as he was taken with the 33rd overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. He’s also still just 27 years old, so he still could turn into a dynamite starting cornerback. It’s not something worth banking on, but King’s currentl level of play would probably be an upgrade over the other options on New England’s roster at this point, and it wouldn’t hurt to explore the possibility of bringing him on board.
