It’s possible that the Boston Celtics wouldn’t get everything out of Orlando Robinson immediately if the Celtics select him. The seven footer doesn’t come from a basketball blue blood. He might need a little seasoning in the NBA to adjust to the level of competition. But a little patience would absolutely be worth it.
Robinson is a full-sized center with the strength to battle in the paint. He can play with his back to the basket with an array of post moves, including a very smooth turnaround, fade away jumper that would be hard for anyone to block. He can face up an opponent and beat his man off the dribble as well.
Robinson completes his offensive repertoire with being a .352 shooter on threes. In short, Robinson is an offensive threat at all three levels.
When not getting his number called, Robinson is solid on the boards, hauling in 8.4 rebounds per game. He’s also smart with the ball, dishing out almost three assists per game.
Where Robinson leaves you wanting is on the other end of the court. He’s about average for an athlete, so he’s not much of a shot blocker, despite being seven feet with a 7’3” wingspan. And there are concerns with his lateral quickness to be effective on switches.
Enes Kanter wasn’t able to play for Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka because he was a defensive liability. Maybe that would happen to Robinson. Do we know that for sure right now? No, so Robinson is worth a look to add depth at the center position. He could be worth the wait.
