No.12: Can Devin Asiasi emerge as more than the New England Patriots third tight end option?

If Jonnu Smith bounces back and flourished in New England, the Patriots may not need third-year tight end Devin Asiasi to make a leap in 2022, but it sure will be nice.

Like Keene, the 2020 third-round pick has the raw talent to morph into a reliable target in the Patriots’ offense, but the question is can he find his niche.  More importantly, can the Patriots find a way to get more out of Asiasi than his two career catches for 39 yards.

Devin Asiasi has a big opportunity ahead of him. light. Related Story

In fairness to the UCLA product, he spent most of the 2021 NFL season on the inactive list.  That was due to the two tight end set of Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith as the New England Patriots were finally able to get some production out of the tight end position.

Can Asiasi once again be the team’s third tight end option?  Can he step up and give the team something to think about if Smith once again struggles?  The hope at least would be for both him and Keene to provide competition at the position that would at least push Smith.

In concluding, Asiasi is a player who will likely be on the 2022 Patriots roster bubble heading into training camp, but he is still a young player with some untapped potential.  If he shows off his skillset as a pass-catching tight end, the New England Patriots will have an added bonus on offense and Belichick’ drafting ability won’t look as bad when it comes to that 2020 NFL Draft.
