Boston Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck always talked about creating fireworks and what better way to create a boom throughout all New England and the basketball world than a blockbuster trade with the Brooklyn Nets for one Kevin Durant.

After coming two games short of winning a championship, the Celtics can smell Banner 18 and Durant would help put the team over the hump, but the question is what would Brad Stevens give up in order to win now?

It all starts with a package centered around Jaylen Brown.

But let’s start with Durant, who requested a trade from the Nets on Thursday.  The request certainly heated up the start of NBA Free Agency and got the rumors stirring as to his next destination.

As the Kyrie Irving world continues to turn.  Wait…flat worlds don’t turn.  As the Irving drama moves forward, it appears Durant wants no more drama in his life (to quote Mary J. Blige) and wants to start yet another new chapter in his life.

Kevin Durant sparking fireworks and the Boston Celtics are stirring some smoke

Just like July of 2016, Durant has the NBA world under siege awaiting his next destination, except this time he is not a free agent who gets to control his own destiny.  The Brooklyn Nets have the power in this situation since Durant is under contract.  They will certainly seek the best package for the superstar.

What would that package entail?  A young star 25 or under to start, as well as an infinite number of draft picks.  Also, a team on the cusp of an NBA championship.

Enter the Boston Celtics who have two rising stars in Brown and Jayson Tatum and a team who should’ve taken care of the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals.  Along with the possibility of teaming up with Tatum, Durant has a close relationship with Al Horford and has been coached by Ime Udoka in Brooklyn.

As Sports Illustrated senior writer Chris Mannix sums it up, the Celtics are in a great place to land Durant…if Stevens is really in “win now mode.”

NBA rumors: Boston Celtics as a prime destination

While there are other teams like the Phoenix Suns, Portland Trail Blazers and Miami Heat in play, the Celtics landing Durant would set the NBA ablaze.  Again, that Durant and Tatum pairing would be a hard duo to defend.  Above that, the Celtics would have to break up the Jays to make such a deal happen.

Remember, Kelly Olynyk and Jae Crowder are not walking through that door trying to lore Durant in the Hamptons.  The Boston Celtics are a legit NBA title contender as instructed and have a young star in Tatum hungry to get over that next hump.  They also have a budding star in Jaylen Brown who fans don’t want to lose.  But eventually he will want his own team even with proving to the world that both he and Tatum can play together.

Like Kevin Garnett back in 2008, the Celtics find themselves once again in a position to land a aging superstar who could instantly bring a title to Boston.  Can Brad Stevens find a way to pull it off and create fireworks just like Danny Ainge did back then?

Such a deal would put Stevens on the map when it comes to league executives and put the Boston Celtics in the driver’s seat for the next few seasons at the least.  As far as Kevin Durant, he would be joining a team who swept him in the playoffs, but what better way to stick it to Kyrie Irving than go to the very team he stomped on to pave his way to Brooklyn.
