Boston Celtics ship Jaylen Brown to the Utah Jazz for Donovan Mitchell

The situation with Donovan Mitchell in Utah is one to watch because if could be any day now that the young star asks to be traded.  If he does, the Boston Celtics will be in that conversation because they have a young star Danny Ainge would be interested in.

Why wouldn’t he be interested in Jaylen Brown since he drafted him?

A swap of the two young stars along with other players or draft swaps would have the league talking.

In averaging 25.9 points per game last season with the Jazz, Mitchell is a more consistent scorer than Brown, although the gap is not that far off between the two.  Him paired with Jayson Tatum would present a more lethal duo as long as Mitchell is content in the No. 2 role on a contending team.

But much of a deal between Ainge and Brad Stevens involving Mitchell and Brown depends on what direction Ainge wants to take the Jazz.  All of the NBA knows how Ainge likes to collect hand hoard draft picks, so a total rebuild could be on the table in Utah.

If that is the case, a team like the New York Knicks would be a more appealing trade partner.  Or some sort of three-way deal that brings a collection of young players and draft picks to the Jazz.  That could also involve Jaylen Brown.

The outcome of any deal involving Brown would have to benefit the Celtics in their win now mode.  Mitchell would make them a little better offensively, but is he the type of star that puts them over the top?

Well, that depends on how the Boston Celtics roster looks after such a deal.
