With the MLB trade deadline approaching in a few weeks, the Boston Red Sox are one team to keep a close eye on.

Every Red Sox fan knows that Bobby Dalbec has not been cutting it for the Red Sox. It’s a shame too, because some people thought Dalbec could be key to the Red Sox offense.

Some even thought that Dalbec would be a better fit for the Red Sox long term than Anthony Rizzo. But I think now is that time to say it and it’s been long overdue. The Boston Red Sox should do the right thing and cut ties with Bobby Dalbec.

The Boston Red Sox get little production out of Bobby Dalbec

The bottom line is that Bobby Dalbec is not getting the job done for the Boston Red Sox. Don’t believe me? Let’s let the stats do the talking, shall we?

For basic stats, Bobby Dalbec is hitting .204 with six home runs and 21 RBI’s. If you want another puke-worthy stat, Dalbec has struck out 75 times in 216 at bats. Want more? Dalbec has a .287 OBP with a .620 OPS.

This seriously feels like the Red Sox ignored their first base production. I mean seriously, Dalbec has proven he can’t hit at the MLB level.

The worst part about it is that it doesn’t show any signs of improving. Dalbec hit .263 during the COVID season and gave Red Sox fans something to look forward to in the future. In 2021, he hit .240, mainly because of a hot second half of the season. Now in 2022? He’s barely hitting above .200. His numbers help contribute to some of the lowest numbers offensively for first basemen in the entire MLB. Long story short, the production for Bobby Dalbec has been significantly underachieving to say the least.

The Boston Red Sox should’ve traded Bobby Dalbec last off-season

We know the Red Sox have several needs they could have addressed this past offseason. So why didn’t the Red Sox capitalize on some of those needs with Bobby Dalbec?

Dalbec had a hot second half of the season in 2021. His vale was never going to be higher. So why didn’t the Red Sox do anything with him when they had the chance?

You could’ve realistically traded Bobby Dalbec to a team that needed a young first baseman. In return, you could’ve gotten a prospect or maybe even a reliever to make that bullpen stronger. Honestly, the bullpen is in some pretty rough shape too. So a Bobby Dalbec trade could’ve helped with that.

The bottom line is that the Boston Red Sox should now cut ties with Bobby Dalbec. He just isn’t working to how everyone was hoping he would after the 2020 season.

It’s bad when you can call that a guy will strikeout in any given at-bat. That is what the Red Sox face with Bobby Dalbec. Get rid of him, go get Josh Bell, or get Triston Casas up here once he finishes his rehab assignment. You can’t win with Bobby Dalbec starting every day at first base. Cut ties now while you can.
