Will the Boston Celtics pull off a blockbuster trade for disgruntled NBA superstar Kevin Durant?

I guess a better question is will Celtics president of basketball operations Brad Stevens be a mad man and trade young, budding superstar Jaylen Brown for a 34-year-old journeyman who just happens to be the best player in the game when he’s happy?

If such a deal were to occur, it would be a bit ironic given the Celtics selected Brown with one of those picks they received from Brooklyn in the Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce deal to the Nets a decade ago.

Are the Boston Celtics showing their commitment to Jaylen Brown?

While some call it a no-brainer, others say the Celtics would be crazy to break up the duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown even if Durant basically guarantees a shot at another title.  But those who say no to the deal could make the case that the Jays winning a title would be a more amazing feat than inserting an aging Durant into the mix.

Then there’s the viewpoint that at this point Stevens and the Boston Celtics must trade Brown because they have already burned bridges with all these trade rumors.  But are the rumors real or are the Nets using the Celtics in their Chess match with other NBA teams?

Well, this Celtics tweet seems to put the idea that the team is pursuing Kevin Durant to rest.  That is, unless the team is playing their own game to bring down the price for KD.

It should be no coincidence that “faith” is a word used in this interesting and intriguing tweet by the team’s official Twitter.  This quote by Brown that leads off the video further showcases his commitment to the team and finishing the mission.

"“For me, it’s always about growth.  Continuing to find different ways to lead,” Brown said in the video.  “And that’s what it’s about.  The future is bright.  I’m excited to get back next year.”"

Granted that quote from JB was made back in June after the 2022 NBA Finals loss to the Golden State Warriors, but the team using it in this Tweet while these crazy Durant rumors are swirling is strategic.  The Boston Celtics are content on running it back with a team led by Tatum and Brown…at least let’s hope so.

The NBA and all of New England will explode if such a deal happened.  There would be good and bad reaction, but all must agree that a Celtics championship with Tatum and Brown would be a sweeter triumph than one delivered by Durant.

dark. Next. 1 Donovan Mitchell trade Ainge, Jazz cannot resist

So, unless Stevens is able to somehow add Durant in the mix with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, the Boston Celtics should be out when it comes to this potential blockbuster.  The team appears to be making that exact statement unless they are playing around with the Nets by playing with the emotions of Celtics fans everywhere.
