Boston College Eagles: Safety valve

Jaiden Woodbey is entering his second season with the Boston College Eagles. If Woodbey continues the strong play he finished last season with, 2022 should be a memorable one.

Woodbey collected 24 tackles in the team’s last three games, including a season-high 10 in the finale against Wake Forest.

From his spot in the secondary, Woodbey finished second on the team with 56 tackles. He also had two fumble recoveries, including one he took in for a score in a victory over UMass early in the season.

With Brandon Sebastian gone, Woodbey will be looked at to improve his interception total from 2021 (two) and also take over more leadership responsibilities. He will, however, have some help on the defense’s back end with veteran Josh DeBerry.

DeBerry is coming off a season in which he finished with 53 tackles, good for fourth on the team despite missing the last two games with an ankle injury.

Playing primarily from the nickelback position, DeBerry also snagged two interceptions and collected eight tackles-for-loss.

Jason Maitre, Elijah Jones, and CJ Burton are also players from the secondary who are back for another season.

Keep an eye on: Jirhe Love, a graduate transfer from Towson.

Injuries in the secondary have hampered the Eagles the last two seasons, but also provided the team with depth. The same can also be said for Boston College on the defensive line.
