New England Patriots trade candidate No. 1: Isaiah Wynn

Isaiah Wynn’s tenure with the Patriots has never really gotten off the ground, and given the developments that have taken place throughout training camp, it wouldn’t be too surprising to see him get traded before the start of the season.

Wynn has already gotten bounced from his starting left tackle spot by Trent Brown, and moved over to right tackle instead. Wynn has often been overmatched at left tackle throughout his career, so this move isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially considering how dominant Brown can be when he stays healthy.

But then Wynn ended up missing about of week of practice, which allowed Yodny Cajuste to get starting reps. And Cajuste looked great, at times even better than Wynn himself. Given how Wynn has had a somewhat uneven camp, and Cajuste effortlessly filled in for him, that’s not exactly a great sign for Wynn’s future prospects with the team.

Like everyone else on this list, there has reportedly been some interest in Wynn around the league. He’s also entering the last year of his current contract, meaning that if Belichick doesn’t intend on keeping Wynn around, he would be better off trading him while he can.

If Wynn is getting outperformed by Cajuste, there’s no sense holding onto him for one more season, especially considering the type of deal he could get if he were to hit the free agent market. If Wynn puts together even an average season for the Patriots, he will probably be in line for a massive pay raise, and chances are it will be one Belichick isn’t willing to hand out, making it in the team’s best interests to explore trading Wynn now while they can.
