1. Mac Jones will get MVP considerations…briefly

As if the Mac Jones hype bullet train wasn’t zooming already, the face of the New England Patriots mentioned along with Buffalo’s Josh Allen, Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers and Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes would make that train fly.

It won’t last, but it will be entertaining for a minute.

Today’s sports media loves hot takes. Whether it’s TV or radio, so-called “experts” love saying outrageous things for attention.

So when Jones has a string of outstanding games, these talking heads will race to enter Jones’ name into the MVP conversation.

It has already happened. Former New York Jets general manager and current ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum has declared that Jones will be a sneaky MVP candidate in 2022. Tannenbaum said this back in May!

But talk is just talk. It will be up to Jones to take his game to the next level. We may not see a dramatically improved Jones early in the season, but his production will improve after the early gauntlet.

Mac 10 will begin his MVP campaign in Week 5. Over the next four weeks the Patriots will play four teams that are expected to be bad in 2022: the Detroit Lions, the Cleveland Browns, the Chicago Bears and the New York Jets. This will be the best opportunity for Jones to pad his stats and accumulate numbers to rival his peers.

As quickly as Jones enters the MVP race, he will quickly be labeled as a MV-wanna-B after the Patriots face the Indianapolis Colts, the Minnesota Vikings and the Buffalo Bills.

Whatever these blowhards say, pay them little attention. While they speak in extremes, the reality is Jones is an emerging star. Having more talented receivers to throw to will help bring out his potential as he toys with a 4,000-yard 40 touchdown season. That’s well within his ability. But it may not happen now.

Which is OK. This is just Jones’ second season. The real Mac Jones MVP talk starts in season three.
