New England Patriots: Kendrick Bourne is the key to victory vs. Steelers
After a tough week one loss to the Miami Dolphins, the New England Patriots find themselves 0-1 to start the 2022 campaign.
The 20-7 loss makes it two seasons in a row that the Patriots have lost their season opening game to the pesky Miami Dolphins.
As they look ahead, they have their second game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. The offense definitely needs an upgrade in order to even their record at 1-1.
So who is the key to victory on Sunday for the New England Patriots? It’s none other than wide receiver Kendrick Bourne! Why? Let’s discuss.
The New England Patriots have a playmaker in Kendrick Bourne
Let’s face it, the Patriots don’t necessarily have the most explosive offense in the NFL. They were only able to score seven points in Week 1, mainly because of a fourth down penalty on the Dolphins to keep the touchdown drive alive.
Bourne only played two offensive snaps in the Week 1 opening loss in Miami. But one of those snaps developed into a connection from Mac Jones for 45 yards. This gave the Patriots a chance to get the game in striking distance before Nelson Agholor fumbled it away.
The point is that Bourne can create separation that the Patriots desperately need. A big play can change a whole drive and Bourne’s play could’ve done that for the Pats, had they converted it into points. People thought he was going to be a big factor against Miami. Why not put him back in for regular snaps with the offense? Especially against a Pittsburgh defense with a lot of injuries!
Kendrick Bourne’s chemistry with New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones
Look, I really believe Bourne’s time will come to shine this season in the offense. Even Mac Jones thinks so too!
We saw instances of the chemistry last year in some instances. The Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans games in Foxborough are perfect examples. I can literally picture Bourne going down the sidelines in the Tennessee game for a huge score.

With the way things are currently going, Mac Jones needs all of the easy passes that he can get in the offense. Bourne can give him some easy targets to throw to and big play ability. The chemistry will only grow the more that he’s on the field. So if he gets a lot of snaps against the Steelers, it should only help Bourne and the rest of the offense.
Kendrick Bourne needs to be on the field more in week two and have a huge game for the Patriots. When Bourne is in the starting lineup, it gives the offense a boost that people didn’t realize until we saw his (lack of) play on Sunday.
If Bourne plays a majority of offensive snaps on Sunday, the Patriots will look a lot better on offense. If Bill Belichick and Matt Patricia want to keep the speedy wide receiver in the doghouse, then don’t be surprised if the Patriots start the season 0-2 after Sunday.
