D-line for Boston College Eagles growing

Rather than giving the nod to one standout on defense, it’s a nod to the defensive front of the Boston College Eagles.

The unit had three-first half sacks and pressured Maine quarterback Joe Fagnano throughout much of the game. They did allow Fagnano a few instances to find receivers open in the secondary but overall, were again consistent.

The players on the line also helped to contain the Maine (0-3) running game to a meager 3.1 yards per carry.

Marcus Valdez, Cam Horsley, and Donovan Ezeiruaku each had a sack. The three combined for 12 tackles on the night.

Special nods also go to Kam Arnold, who collected the first interception of his career, and Jason Maitre, who had an interception and fumble recovery.

The effort wasn’t the prettiest of affairs, and it was against an FCS school. But, as the old adage goes, a win is a win. Plenty of positives can be carried forward, as well as the learning moments, too. And, with a daunting three-game tour on the horizon, Saturday’s night victory arrived at a perfect time.
