The New England Patriots came away with an impressive 29-0 shutout win over the Detroit Lions at Gillette Stadium Sunday.
The win improves the Patriots record to 2-3 on the season, heading into an important game next Sunday in Cleveland against the inconsistent Browns.
The defense was the main story of the game as guys like Matthew Judon, Jack Jones, and Christian Barmore had huge games. Offensively, the Patriots had good games from Bailey Zappe, Jakobi Meyers, and Rhamondre Stevenson.
However, not everyone on the Patriots offense had a great game Sunday afternoon. Nelson Agholor fumbled away a Bailey Zappe pass that led to an interception for the Lions. This saw Agholor out for a majority of the rest of the game, along with a hamstring injury sustained in the third quarter.
But make no mistake about this Patriots fans, Nelson Agholor is becoming a huge problem and we need to talk about!
Nelson Agholor continues to have costly turnovers for the New England Patriots!
The Patriots have not played Patriot-like football the first five weeks of the season. What do I mean by that exactly?
Bad turnovers, dumb penalties, and mental mistakes have cost the Patriots to be at least 3-2, if not 4-1 on the 2022 season. But don’t make any mistake about it, Nelson Agholor is right in the middle of it with his turnovers.
Look at Sunday afternoon, his one target from Bailey Zappe turned into an interception because Agholor couldn’t handle the pass. Take a look at the play again in slow motion. The throw from Zappe literally hits him in the hands before it bounces out and into the hands of the Lions.

But this isn’t the first time that Nelson Agholor has had a turnover for the New England Patriots this season. Sure, this turnover wasn’t costly of a game. But look at the other turnovers that have occurred because of the Patriots wide receiver.
The first game of the season against Miami was the first turnover. The Patriots had a chance to get back in the game, were in Miami territory, and he fumbled the ball away. It’s all about ball protection after the catch!
The home opener against Baltimore saw the second horrendous turnover from Agholor. Once again, the Patriots were driving down the field, in a one score game. What happens? Nelson Agholor finds a way to fumble and gives the Ravens the win.
Then yesterday happens. In and out of his hands and gave Detroit decent field position! That cannot continue to happen!

When the Patriots are at their best, they control the turnover battle and finish off drives. Sure, Mac Jones is injured and it hurts the New England Patriots. But when receivers have the opportunity to make plays, they have to do it. Plain and simple!
