Boston Bruins: 3 stars from the start of the 2022-23 NHL season
By Ryan Whitley
Boston Bruins First Star: Linus Ullmark
By far, the most important player to the Boston Bruins early season success has been goaltender Linus Ullmark. Without him, and the many huge saves he’s made so far, there’s no telling what the Bruins record would be, but it wouldn’t be pretty.
Coming into the year, the expectation was a 50/50 split of playtime between Ullmark and Jeremy Swayman. Well, that has been anything but the case, as the combination of Ullmark’s strong play and Swayman’s struggles have handed the reins firmly to the big Swede.
He’s a perfect 4-0 on the year, and his play has already stolen the B’s at least one game in their shootout win over the Anaheim Ducks. Throughout the whole game he was nearly impenetrable, and took it up even a step further by stopping all four shots in the shootout to seal the win.
If he keeps up this level of play, expect a lot of Goalie Hugs at the end of Bruins victories this season.
Boston Bruins getting contributions from whole roster
While these three have been the team’s brightest stars, the Bruins are no doubt also receiving meaningful contributions from the rest of the roster. AJ Greer, Nick Foligno, and Jake Debrusk come to mind as three additional players already making a strong impact, who could easily have taken one of these three spots.
For the Boston Bruins to get where they want to go this year, the whole team will have to stay dialed in to keep the wins coming, and after watching this start, I believe they can do it.
