The Boston Celtics had something to prove against the Chicago Bulls on Friday night.

After getting ran out of Chicago in the two team’s first matchup, the Celtics wanted to get a little revenge the second time around and they got it with a 123-119 victory at TD Garden.

Led by Jayson Tatum and Malcolm Brogdon, the Celtics were able to hold off the Bulls.  Although the defense was still an issue at times, the C’s proved they have more than enough scoring to run with any team in the league even when one of their top scores had a down night.

With just 16 points, Jaylen Brown wasn’t knocking down 3’s but he found ways to make an impact in other ways like they hype up the crowd throwdown late in the third quarter.

Along with Brown, the Celtics had other starters step up like Derrick White and Marcus smart along with nice performances off the bench from players like Sam Hauser, Grant Williams, and Luke Kornet.

Speaking of stepping up, White had this clutch moment of the night:

While Tatum and Brogdon had the hot hands it was nice to see the total team effort and improvement in defense that was there even though the team did still give up 119 points led by the explosive scoring effort of one Bulls star DeMar DeRozan who led Chicago with 46 points.

Celtics interim coach Joe Mazzulla talked about the defense and how it will take time for the team to completely get where they want to be defensively.

"“Defense is something that comes with time,” Mazzulla said.  “I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, it’s not an effort issue.  Our guys play really, really hard, and they want to win.  It’s a matter of reestablishing habits.  Reestablishing standards.  And we have moments where we’re not great defensively, where we let go of the rope a little bit, but I love the steps that we’ve taken over the late two, three games.”"

In improving their record to 5-3, there was some nice takeaways from the game that should have Celtics fans feeling good moving forward.
