The NFL is the best reality show out there and the greatest storyline would be a Tom Brady return to the New England Patriots in 2023.

While the Bill Belichick and Brady relationship and perceived feud has provided more drama than “General Hospital”, what better ending to Brady’s career than to return to Foxboro and not only help Belichick achieve history, but also get unlock everything Mac Jones could be.

With the second-year quarterback struggling and Brady trying his best to keep the Tampa Bay Buccaneers afloat in a under par NFC South, the NFL gods seem to be setting up an offseason storyline that will undoubtedly take over the free agency period if the 45-year-old quarterback doesn’t retire and instead decides to hit free agency.

The New England Patriots could turn back to Tom Brady to fix Mac Jones

So, unless Jones finds his way in the second half of the season, this is a dream that could turn into speculation and then a heavy rumor as the season comes to an end.  We all know Robert Kraft will welcome one of his favorite sons back to Foxborough, but would Belichick?

A further question is would Brady consider returning to a place where he spent 20 NFL seasons and won 6 Super Bowls?  Well, on his weekly podcast with Jim Gray, the 7-time Super Bowl champion admitted following the team on a weekly basis and threw some praise in the direction of Belichick.

"“Believe me, all those years with [Belichick] in my ear, I can hear that as if he were right next to me,” Brady told Gray, as transcribed by WEEI.  “We had 20 years together of elite football experience that I wouldn’t have traded for anything in the world.  He’s a great competitor.”"

As much fun and success as Brady had his first year in Tampa, the last couple of seasons haven’t been as thrilling and perhaps the quarterback misses the structure his old coach laid down at One Patriot Place.  So, perhaps any chance of a reunion is on the ego of Bill Belichick.  Would he take Brady back for just one season to help get the offense back right?

Would that mean demoting Mac Jones to a backup role so he could watch Brady orchestrate the offense and learn the same way Matt Cassel and Jimmy Garoppolo did?

Now one might say, with Matt Patricia calling plays even the great Tom Brady would struggle, but what Jones needs to learn is how to make things happen when nothing is there.  He needs to learn how to attack defenses instead of being afraid of defenses attacking him.

Also, imagine playmakers like Kendrick Bourne, Jonnu Smith, Hunter Henry, Jakobi Meyers, DeVante Parker and Tyquan Thornton catching the ball from Brady, a quarterback who focuses on the open receiver vs a favorite receiver.  You know, kind of like Bailey Zappe did during his starts.

It really may come down to the Patriots coach and Brady is now sounding like a fan of his former coach.

"“What an amazing coach he is and how he prepares the team to win.  He’s done it year in and year out.  He’s 22 wins away from an amazing milestone,” Brady said.  “I have no doubt he’s going to get it.  I watch that team every week and I’m impressed by how they prepare and the accountability the organization has.  It always starts at the top.”"

It sounds like Brady misses the Patriot Way and sounds like he wouldn’t shy away from finishing his great career in the place it started.  The benefit for the New England Patriots would be putting them back on the map as a team to watch in 2023, a chance for Belichick to get closer to that All-Time coaching wins mark and Brady helping and teaching Mac Jones.

Anything is possible in the NFL and this possible scenario is worth paying attention to.
