MLB Rumors: José Abreu to Red Sox makes way too much sense!
The Boston Red Sox are looking to upgrade this off-season. It’s no secret that the Red Sox currently sit at the bottom of the American League East, talent wise.
So that’s why this year’s free agency period is very important for this Red Sox team. If this team can make some big moves, they can be right back in the hunt for a playoff spot.
One name that has popped up for the Red Sox is Chicago White Sox first baseman José Abreu. Abreu is a name that the Red Sox should pursue for a variety of reasons. So to me, José Abreu to the Boston Red Sox makes way too much sense!
José Abreu could fill the Boston Red Sox DH hole
With J.D. Martinez more than likely out the door, the Red Sox need a slugger that can come in and help in the DH spot. This is where José Abreu could come in and help right away.
The three time All-star first baseman had a good, solid season for the White Sox in 2022. He hit .304 with 15 homeruns and 75 RBI’s and an .824 OPS.
Now obviously, these aren’t numbers compared to what Abreu had done in the past for the Chicago White Sox. But it certainly can help the Red Sox a little bit in the lineup.
The best part is that Abreu doesn’t even have to play first base. With the rotating door of Triston Casas and Eric Hosmer at first base, the position itself is taken care; especially on the defensive side of things.
Let the slugger from Cuba worry about hitting in a ballpark where you can pepper the “Green Monster” for 81 games every season. Every good hitter helps!
Jose Abreu wouldn’t break the bank for the Boston Red Sox
The good thing about José Abreu is that he won’t cost the Red Sox any type of large money. Abreu had signed a three year, 50 million dollar contract before the 2020 COVID season had started.

So after seeing the numbers and thinking about how Abreu slipped a little bit in numbers in 2022, the Sox could swoop right in and sign the White Sox first baseman. We know that Chaim Bloom wants to find a good deal, right? Nothing too crazy?
This is the type of signing that Bloom would love! A guy that has proven he can hit at the big league level, while also getting him for an affordable contract? I mean, what more can management want?
The bottom line with José Abreu and the Boston Red Sox
Does José Abreu solve all of the problems that the Red Sox have? Definitely not! But does he help bring in one of the pieces you need? Yes he does!
This could be the start of a good off-season if the Sox could land Abreu. He can be a solid DH option, some flexibility at first base if another one gets hurt, and you can get him on a good contract.
So what are you waiting for Chaim Bloom? This deal makes too much sense. Get it done!
