Boston Celtics show Al Horford the love (and we’re here for it!)
The Boston Celtics are picking up right where they left off from their NBA Finals run last season. At 18-4, the Celtics have the best record in the NBA and are scoring at a historic pace.
With all of the love usually going to the young star duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, people forget about the contributions from a guy like Al Horford.
Well, Brad Stevens certainly didn’t forget about Al Horford. The former Florida big man signed a two year extension, worth 20 million dollars. The extension assures Horford will be a Celtic through his age 39 season.
The Boston Celtics have a tremendous leader in Al Horford
We all know that Al Horford can’t put up actual statistics for leadership. But what Horford brings to the floor as the “old man” for the Celtics is truly admirable.
Horford is a guy that can calm down the young Celtics in any given situation. He doesn’t say a whole lot. But he shows his leadership through his hard work and his day-to-day preparation.
That’s what the Celtics wanted the first time when he signed back in 2016. It’s also why they brought him back to the organization last season, via a trade with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
When you have a calming presence like Horford on the court, you can’t help but love rooting for the 6’9 big man!
The Boston Celtics have a good scorer in Al Horford
This part doesn’t get talked about enough with Horford.
Sure, we talk about the leadership. Yes, we can also talk about the fact that he can also be a good rebounding presence for the Celtics. But Horford is a really good scoring threat too!
Horford is shooting nearly 49 percent from three point land. Let me say that again. Horford is shooting almost 49 percent from three this season. That shouldn’t be taken lightly!

But it’s not only the outside shot that Horford can contribute to the Celtics scoring attack. It’s the fact that he can play down low with some of the game’s best big men.
We don’t see it as much from Horford. But he can play in the post and dominate in the paint.
We saw a great combination of that in game four of the Eastern Conference semifinals last year in Milwaukee. Horford was shooting lights out from the outside and was able to put the ball on the floor, in the paint. When you can do both of those, you’re an elite level scorer in the NBA.
The bottom line with Al Horford’s extension with the Boston Celtics
This is a great move by Brad Stevens. Al Horford loves being in Boston and Boston loves Al Horford!
This assures that Horford will be around for the rest of this season, and the next two seasons. Newsflash people, the Boston Celtics are going to be scary good for the foreseeable future. Now that Al is locked in, it’s time for Brad to get everyone else on the same page.
But for now, let’s be happy that Al is home where he belongs, in a Boston Celtics uniform.
