Patriots WR Jakobi Meyers isn’t to blame for the disaster in the desert

The New England Patriots lost on a last second touchdown from the Las Vegas Raiders on a lateral gone wrong from Jakobi Meyers.

With the loss, the Patriots fall to 7-7 on the season and see their playoff hopes dwindling by the second. They’ll need a lot of help from teams playing the Chargers, Jets, and Dolphins to have a shot at sneaking in the playoffs.

While people might be quick to blame Jakobi Meyers for the loss yesterday, what I would say to you all is: not so fast!

The New England Patriots were up 24-17 with three minutes left and the ball!

This is something that Patriots fans might forget amidst all of the chaos yesterday.

This Patriots team had taken the lead on two big plays. A big chunk play pass from Mac Jones to Jakobi Meyers, followed by a Rhamondre Stevenson touchdown run.

They had the ball with about three minutes left and HAD THE BALL! What’s also a swift punch to the mouth is the fact that the Patriots were running the ball well on the Raiders in the second half.

So all you have to do is run for a few first downs, get the clock down, and you walk out of Vegas with a win and improve to 8-6. What happens? Stopped on first down for a short gain, and then a false start on Conor McDermott. That killed the drive and gave the Raiders hope.

The New England Patriots defense STUNK in the final drive

This Patriots defense is essentially supposed to be the identity of this team. They did a phenomenal job in the second half in shutting down the Raiders offense. But what happened on the last drive?

The Patriots went into this soft, prevent defense. Now I understand the angle of not getting beat over the top. Especially with a guy like Davante Adams that is one of the best receivers in the NFL!

But what happens when you play too passively? Exactly what happened! Derek Carr got two chunk plays to receivers and they got out of bounds with relative ease. Then the Raiders were at the 30 yard line of New England with about 30 seconds left.

I know the actual Raiders touchdown is being talked about today as controversial. But you shouldn’t have even been in that situation if you truly trusted your defense to finish the job! That touchdown doesn’t happen in my opinion if the Patriots continued what they were doing throughout the majority of the second half.

The New England Patriots have coaching problems

Once again, coaching rears its ugly head for the Patriots.

Cam Achord? He should be on the hot seat. Another blocked punt gave the Raiders a score right before the end of the first half to put the Raiders up 17-3. That shouldn’t have happened.

Matt Patricia? Should be long gone by now! He’s proven he can’t handle being an offensive coordinator.

The defensive coaches? Change their whole gameplay the last drive of the game. Not play, DRIVE!

Some serious changes need to be made to this coaching staff in 2023. Otherwise, the Patriots will be stuck in purgatory.

The bottom line with Jakobi Meyers and the New England Patriots

Jakobi Meyers made a mistake that ended up losing the Patriots the game. But don’t blame the entire game on Meyers for that one play!

dark. Next. Bet on Marcus Jones to have a big day

He should’ve never been in that situation. It’s embarrassing that the Pats lost that game. Jakobi Meyers will continue to be an efficient player on the Patriots offense and he will learn from this.

Don’t blame Jakobi for this loss, period.
