The Boston Celtics have been the best team in the NBA so far this season. Sure, they’ve had their mini slumps; but they are 25-10 following Tuesday night’s win against the Houston Rockets.

One topic of conversation has been Celtics interim head coach Joe Mazzulla.

Mazzulla took over the Celtics after the Ime Udoka fiasco took place in the summer. Despite the hot start, the Celtics have not moved the interim tag away from Mazulla’s title. A bit strange with the way the Celtics are playing if you ask me!

With the way the Celtics are currently playing, there’s only one thing left to say. Mazzulla should be the permanent head coach of the Boston Celtics, for the foreseeable future.

Joe Mazzulla has the Boston Celtics as dominant as last season

You look at this comment and might scoff at it. But is it really as crazy as it sounds, when you think about it for a long period of time?

Some might argue that the defense isn’t as good as it was a year ago with Udoka at the helm. But it’s still a top 10 NBA defense. I think now, the Celtics are realizing that it isn’t all about scoring. They’re getting back to what they did on the defensive end of the floor for the whole second half of the season.

Plus, getting a guy like Robert Williams back will only make your team that much better defensively. Don’t question it Celtics fans. This team has continued its dominance over the rest of the NBA.

Joe Mazzulla has a record offense going with the Boston Celtics

This is the part where we have to give Mazzulla his flowers.

Mazzulla has gotten the Celtics to a point where their offense is not only the best in this year’s NBA, but to the point where we’re talking historically good.

There are some games where the Celtics are easily scoring in the 130-140 range. When their three pointers are falling, good luck trying to keep up with them.

Look at the Christmas Day game against the Milwaukee Bucks. The Celtics shot 19 of 39 from three point land. That’s good for a percentage of 48.7. That’s essentially making a three, then missing a three, and repeating the pattern the whole game.

When you also have guys like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown leading the charge, that helps an offense expand more. Then throw it guys like Al Horford, Robert Williams, Derrick White, Marcus Smart, and the whole bench; then you have something special offensively.

The bottom line with Joe Mazzulla and the Boston Celtics

Mazzulla has done more than enough to prove he can be trusted to lead the Celtics into the future.

Next. Celtics bench players rising to gold standard. dark

He has kept the Celtics in a position where they can get back to the Finals, and WIN the Finals this season.

They’ve beaten the really good teams this year in convincing fashion. The Bucks, Nuggets and Mavericks are a few teams to name off the top of the head.

So why are we delaying this any longer? Take the interim tag away from Mazzulla’s name. He’s earned the right to be this team’s head coach moving forward. What’s the holdup at this point?
