As the 2022 season is winding down, we are in a situation where the New England Patriots are fighting for their playoff lives.

Let’s just put it as bluntly as possible, the 2022 New England Patriots were just insufferable at times to watch. So why not look ahead to 2023?

There’s a lot of factors that could go into a successful 2023 season or a 2023 season that could be more dreadful than 2022!

So what should the expectations be for the Patriots heading into the 2023 season? Let’s explore!

The New England Patriots bring in a legitimate offensive coordinator

This is as bland of a statement as I can make as a Patriots fan. But it still needs to be repeatedly said over…and over…and over again!

This Patriots team needs a legitimate offensive coordinator. Something tells me they’re going to get one!

Personally, I don’t care who you get as long as the coordinator was a…you know…coordinator before! Bill O’Brien? Frank Reich? Kliff Kingsbury? All of them are viable options.

Just give me somebody that won’t call screen passes and plays behind the line of scrimmage more often than not! A little creativity on offense wouldn’t hurt in 2023 either. Crazy thought to think about, isn’t it?

The New England Patriots keep improving their defense

One of the bright spots for this Patriots team this season has been their defense.

Look at the numbers that linebackers Matthew Judon and Josh Uche have put up defensively. They both are in double digits for sack totals. Judon has gotten recognition to be in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation. Uche continues to show he can be a star in the NFL.

This defense has a nucleus that they can build off of, for the 2023 season. With guys like Judon, Uche, Marcus Jones, Jack Jones, Adrian Phillips, and others; the defense has been good and will continue to be good. But they need to keep adding to it.

You’re looking at a few different situations to improve this defense.

Devin McCourty could very realistically retire after the 2022 season. So they’d need another safety to take McCourty’s place.

Continuing to beef up your defensive line can always help against stopping the run. Another corner or two wouldn’t necessarily hurt either!

The bottom line with the New England Patriots in 2023

This New England Patriots team is not far away from being a consistent playoff team.

Next. Pats focused on Miami, and Van Noy throws shade. dark

You don’t need Tom Brady to come back to fix all of your problems. Get a capable offensive coordinator, keep improving your defense, and you’ll be back in the thick of things in the AFC playoff picture, on a consistent basis.

The offense will improve, the defense will improve, and the Patriots can get back to being considered an actual good football team.

Some better late game management and more disciplined football could’ve been the difference for the 2022 Patriots. Something tells me the 2023 Patriots will right those wrongs.
