The Boston Celtics are still trying to perfect their roster in order to win the NBA championship this season.

Of course, there’s bumps in the road with losses against teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder and other mediocre teams. But for the most part, this current roster is doing a solid job of living up to their pre-season hype.

Of course, the roster can always use an upgrade. Whether it’s a veteran guard or big man that can bring some rebounding and down-low scoring, rosters are always looking for additions. Could old friend Kemba Walker be that guard piece the Boston Celtics look to help upgrade the roster? After all, he was waived by the Mavericks Friday.

The Boston Celtics have had Kemba Walker in the past

If you recall, when Kyrie Irving left town for the Brooklyn Nets, the Celtics replaced him with Walker. It certainly wasn’t perfect. But the guard did his job while in Boston.

He was an All-star in his first season with the Celtics in 2019-2020. But that’s as far as it would get as he completed his second season in Boston before being traded in the off-season to the Thunder for Al Horford.

The fact that the former UCONN guard has played in the Boston Celtics organization before is nothing small to just glance at and then disregard. He knows a little bit about what the Celtics are trying to do and has played with several members of the organization still there. Again, very helpful!

Walker was fortunate enough to have Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown by his side for the better part of two seasons. He’s been through a lot with those two guys.

The Miami ECF loss in the bubble? Kemba was a part of that with the pair of stars. He’s seen them grow up and mature in only two short years. He would know exactly how they play and what the pair needs in order to be successful.

So how can Kemba Walker end up with the Boston Celtics?

A few things need to happen in my mind in order for the Celtics to actually acquire Walker.

First things first, Payton Pritchard might need to go. He’s been a guy that has gotten inconsistent minutes this year with the surplus of guards on this team. So if you trade him, that’s a guy that you can get off the roster and build up some assets for another move this season or in the future.

Second, Justin Jackson should get waived. Similar to what happened with the Noah Vonleh trade, Jackson would be out to create a roster spot. That roster spot realistically could bring Kemba Walker back to Boston to help deepen the bench even more.

Next. C's must level up to overcome shooting slumps. dark

Could  Walker be a good fit for this team? Absolutely. Do I think the Boston Celtics actually make the move? That is up for debate. Why not take a flyer for the rest of the season and then get rid of the contract afterwards? It’s a no-brainer if you ask me.
