If there’s one thing the Boston Red Sox still need in 2023, it’s power in their lineup.

Sure, Rafael Devers is locked in for the next 11 years and can provide you power in the three hole. But after that, who do the Red Sox really have as a power bat?

They also could use a right-handed hitting outfielder that can hit for power. Enter into the equation Atlanta Braves outfielder Adam Duvall.

Now we’re obviously not saying that Duvall will solve all the problems that the Red Sox currently have with their team. However, this Red Sox team can add right-handed hitting outfield power by signing Adam Duvall.

Boston Red Sox desperately need the power bat of Adam Duvall

With Duvall, you know you’ll get a guy that can give you an immediate surge in the middle of the lineup.

While Duvall only had 12 homeruns in 86 games with the Braves in 2022, the big pop that the Red Sox desperately need is there.

The year before, Duvall hit 38 homeruns combined between the Braves and Marlins in 2021. Before that, he hit for over 30 homeruns in two other seasons. The 6’1 outfielder was even an All-star with the Cincinnati Reds back in 2016. How many homeruns did he have that year? Only 33, not a big deal!

Besides homeruns, Duvall can also hit for extra base hits. With a lot of Red Sox hitters that will be focusing on getting on base, it would definitely help to have a hitter like the Braves outfielder in the cleanup spot of the lineup.

Boston Red Sox can have more options with Adam Duvall in the picture

Adam Duvall wouldn’t only help the hitting of the Red Sox, he would also help Alex Cora with some options in the field.

There’s a few options if the Red Sox were to get the deal done with the power hitting Duvall penciled into the lineup.

You can obviously have him play center field and then have Kiké Hernández take over the every day duties at shortstop. Then there’s the option of letting Duvall get some reps at first base and have Triston Casas DH or sit on a given off day.

Point being, there’s more that Cora can do with a reliable outfielder taking care of center field.

Duvall can be a solid addition for a Boston Red Sox team that needs more pieces in place to try to compete in the American League East.

Next. Elvis Andrus a short-term solution at shortstop. dark

He’s a guy that can help strengthen an outfield that right now, doesn’t have a lot to be exited about when it comes to defense.

Also, what else can the Red Sox really do in order to improve their outfield? Maybe a trade with the Pirates for Bryan Reynolds? That would cost prospects and Chaim Bloom/ownership wouldn’t want to sacrifice that much of the future.

So for now, the Braves slugging outfielder can be another key piece to the 2023 puzzle. It can’t possibly get any worse, right?
