New England Patriots and football fans around the world had some type of reaction to the news that Tom Brady is officially re-retiring from the NFL. Brady made the announcement in a Twitter video from his account, around 8:15 AM Tuesday morning.

With Brady out of the picture, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers could be on the verge of a rebuild. Could this be good for the New England Patriots?

We’ve heard the rumblings about how the Patriots could use a number one wide receiver. Mike Evans is a name that could be flown around in trade rumors, should the Buccaneers choose to go with the rebuild option. So honestly, the Patriots could and should pursue a trade for Mike Evans.

New England Patriots would have a legit No.1 receiver in Mike Evans

With Bill O’Brien now running the offense in New England, the Patriots could use a legitimate number one receiver in Mike Evans.

Sure, there are other names out there like Deandre Hopkins and Keenan Allen, just to name a few. But Mike Evans is just as intriguing of an option.

The 6’5 Texas A&M wide receiver gives the Patriots a big, physical receiver to throw to on a consistent basis. He’s coming off a year where he had 77 receptions and six of them for touchdowns. But he’s been a four time Pro-Bowler in the past.

Plus, he had the luxury of playing with Tom Brady for the past three seasons. He probably picked up a thing or two playing with the greatest quarterback of all time.

Mike Evans makes other New England Patriots wide receivers better

If Mike Evans were to be miraculously traded to the Patriots, he would help make that receiving room that much better.

A guy like Devante Parker, who claims he can be a number one wide receiver, can create more opportunities for himself by getting more favorable matchups.

Kendrick Bourne can be utilized more in this offense as a speedy option, and can also be used on jet sweeps and screens. Then there’s Tyquan Thornton, who still has the opportunity to be an elite downfield receiver in year two.

A lot of weapons can be in play for the Patriots should they make the move for Evans. In an off-season where they already solved their offensive coordinator problems, why not give the OC more options to choose from?

The bottom line with Mike Evans and the New England Patriots

Mike Evans is a move that may be a bit costly, but could totally be worth it for the next several seasons.

Next. Tom Brady is officially calling it a career. dark

Teams around the league are finding number one receivers. Whether it’s in the draft or via free agency/trade, teams are realizing they need playmakers on offense.

Mike Evans can be that dynamic playmaker for this Patriots offense. A veteran receiver that has won a championship and can still give you elite production? Yeah, give the Patriots that guy!

Do I think it happens? Probably not. But should the Patriots at least entertain the thought? Absolutely! The Bucs are probably going to try and create cap space. Why not throw in some picks and a player or two to make a big splash?
