With the 2023 MLB campaign starting officially on Thursday with opening day, it meant another season of Boston Red Sox baseball!

Sure, there were a lot of questions coming into the season. Would Rafael Devers be locked up long-term? Can the starting lineup actually put up runs? But one of the biggest questions coming into the season was whether or not the pitcher could throw strikes and keep runs off the board.

Thursday’s opening game against the Baltimore Orioles didn’t do the Red Sox any type of favors as they lost 10-9. Red Sox pitchers allowed nine walks and a hit by batter. Not good!

Also not good for the Red Sox yesterday was reliever Ryan Brasier. Brasier allowed three earned runs on two hits, with two walks and a hit batter. So with the results that came out of Brasier’s performance yesterday, it begs the question: why is this guy still with the Red Sox?

Simply put, the Red Sox need to cut ties with Ryan Brasier sooner rather than later.

Boston Red Sox having an unreliable reliever in Ryan Brasier

Opening day proved further why it’s a mystery that Ryan Brasier is employed by the Boston Red Sox.

Some may say, “you’re being too hard on the guy. It’s only game one of 162!” The second point, I can agree with, yes.

But being too hard on him? No.

Ryan Brasier has become the reliever that you automatically assume is going to give up a run every single time he makes an appearance. In the game Thursday, Brasier came in the fifth inning and gave up three runs to give the Orioles an 8-2 lead at the time.

Not only were the runs given up, but a lot of the contact off of Brasier was hard hit.

I can deal with pitchers giving up runs off of soft contact. Sometimes, baseballs end up finding holes. It’s part of the game.

But when you’re consistently leaving the ball up in the zone and missing spots, then you’re due to get hit hard. That’s what happens with Brasier more often than not.

Boston Red Sox having other options besides Ryan Brasier

The thing that gets me is that the Red Sox had plenty of other options than Ryan Brasier to put in their bullpen.

In the situation, it seemed like manager Alex Cora had almost thrown the surrender flag when he trotted out Brasier and Kaleb Ort in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively. Wouldn’t they more likely be coming into the game in mop-up situations?

Maybe bring in Chris Martin a little sooner into the game? I’m not entirely sure. But there’s no way that Brasier should’ve been in that situation if you wanted a chance to win the game.

The bottom line with the Boston Red Sox and Ryan Brasier

Get Ryan Brasier off this baseball team as soon as possible!

If the Red Sox want to be successful this year, they need pitchers who can throw strikes and keep other teams off the scoreboard. You can’t rely on this guy to do really either option!

So if you still (somehow!) believe this team can get to the playoffs; dare I say *gulp* World Series, then you need the right pieces in place.

Thanks for the good times, Ryan Brasier. But it’s time to cut ties and get some young arms experience at the Major League level.
