I know that a lot of us are excited for some New England Patriots football. Believe me, I am too.

But sometimes, there are things you just can’t ignore with this team. One of those things being the 2019 NFL Draft class.

The last member of that draft class, tackle Yodny Cajuste, was waived by the Patriots on Thursday. With Cajuste gone, the New England Patriots have ZERO members of that draft class currently on the roster.

So now, let’s go back and view why this draft class was an absolute failure for this New England Patriots organization.

New England Patriots whiffing on N’Keal Harry and Joejuan Williams

The New England Patriots took wide receiver N’Keal Harry in the first round of the 2019 draft and corner Joejuan Williams in the second round. These two are playing elsewhere and had lackluster careers with the Patriots.

N’Keal Harry was supposed to be an elite level receiver with the Patriots. A big body that could be physical and win 50-50 balls. But he could never get on the same page with the offense. He’s now with the Chicago Bears.

Joejuan Williams didn’t do much with the Patriots in three seasons before being put on injured reserve in 2022. He’s now with the Minnesota Vikings.

These two definitely were failures of draft picks by Bill Belichick in that 2019 draft.

New England Patriots watching Jake Bailey and Chase Winovich go elsewhere

The Patriots are now watching Jake Bailey and Chase Winovich play for other organizations.

Bailey was a Pro-Bowl punter in 2021,had a disappointing 2022 and then released by the Patriots. He will play with the Miami Dolphins in the 2023 season.

Chase Winovich had some nice moments here in New England. But he is now with the Browns, as part of the Mack Wilson trade last off-season.

These two had some nice moments in New England, but not having them here anymore are more major misses from the Patriots.

Patriots having nobody else from the 2019 draft class

Nobody else from that draft class is currently on the Patriots roster.

Damien Harris is in Buffalo now. Hjalte Froholdt is with the Cardinals. Jarrett Stidham is backing up Russell Wilson in Denver. Byron Cowart is on the Texans. Ken Webster is playing in the CFL.

It’s pretty sad to think that the rest of this Patriots draft class just couldn’t contribute or stand out on the field.

This New England Patriots draft class is the worst in the last five seasons. 2020-2022 has produced some solid players in Kyle Dugger, Rhamondre Stevenson, and Marcus Jones just to name a few. But 2019 was no help at all.

Next. How Robert Kraft tanked draft evaluation. dark

Hopefully, this 2023 class headlined by Christian Gonzalez will add to the list of recent drafts that the team has actually gotten right. But to think that 10 out of 10 players in that draft class are elsewhere is truly astonishing.

But alas, we still move on to the next season. Hopefully some of these free agency signings and younger players will pan out. I’d love to see the Patriots back in the playoffs and playing competitive football. That’s kind of fun to experience, right?
