Celtics force Game 7: Derrick White’s buzzer beater breaks the internet

In the final seconds of Game 6, when it seemed like all hope was lost for the Boston Celtics, with three seconds left Marcus Smart missed a three-pointer, but Derrick White was able to get a lucky offensive rebound and took a split second to make his game-winning shot.

The Celtics were down by 1 with the score 103-102 against the Miami Heat with three seconds left with Derrick White inbounding it before going to the rim for the rebound. That shot brings the Celtics to Game 7 for the 2nd straight series, as they forced it in the Semifinal series against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Derrick White scored 11 points, 6 assists and 4 rebounds (including the clincher) to force the Celtics to Game 7.

In the previous two games, White had played lights out, scoring 24 in Game 5 and 16 in Game 4, his highest in the losses in this series had been 11. However, he had stepped up his game in the assists and the rebounding columns respectively.

Derrick White joins Michael Jordan as the 2nd player to hit a game-winning buzzer beater while trailing in an elimination game. He’s also the 6th player to hit a game-winning buzzer beater when in elimination in NBA Postseason history with the last one being the famous buzzer-beater that Kawhi Leonard hit against the 76ers when he was in Toronto.

This brings to Celtics to uncharted territory in NBA History as no team has ever come back from three down to win the series outright in the postseason.

Jayson Tatum scored 25 out of his 31 points in the first half to have the Celtics lead the first half by four. This is the 5th time that the superstar has scored 25+ points in a half in the postseason as only LeBron James had more in the last 25 years.

Along with his 31 points he also captured a double-double for the 5th straight time with 12 rebounds and five assists. This is the 7th time that he has had 30+ point, 10+ rebounds and 5+ assists in a game this Postseason, which is tied for LeBron James in 2018 which was his last season with the Cavaliers.

Jayson Tatum also has now scored a total of 529 points this offseason, which makes it the 2nd consecutive postseason where he’s scored 500+ points. He’s the youngest player to accomplish this feat and is only the 2nd C’s player to achieve this feat which joins Larry Bird.

Well just like that, Game 7 will commence on Monday at 8:30 tip off at TD Garden.
