Chowder and Champions’ Best Boston Bets for 7/22 (Target Second Red Sox-Mets Game Tonight)
By Isaiah De Los Santos
Boston sports fans will get a double dose of baseball action on Saturday. Not only will the Red Sox and Mets need to finish up Friday’s contest, but they’ll then play again tonight for the matchup that was originally scheduled for today.
With a ton of baseball slated to be played on Saturday, I’m looking at ways to cash in on Friday’s delay. Here’s my best Boston sports bet for July 22.
Best Boston Betting Picks: July 21
Isaiah De Los Santos: Red Sox-Mets UNDER Run Total Game 2
Mother Nature got in the way of the first game of the series between the Mets and Red Sox. Play was stopped in the bottom of the fourth inning due to rain, thunder and lightning, and ultimately conditions didn’t improve, which led to Saturday’s double-header.
Now these teams will need to play most of their first game, then turn around a few hours later for first pitch of Saturday’s original matchup. I can see fatigue definitely setting in and helping to quiet bats on both sides in Game 2 following a long 24 hours.
The nightcap should also be a pitching duel between Max Scherzer and James Paxton. Though the former is pitching to a higher-than-usual ERA (3.99) this season, he came out of the All-Star break looking refreshed, shutting out the Dodgers over 7.0 innings and allowing just one hit in his last start. Paxton was lit up in his last outing, but prior to that, he was tagged for two earned runs or fewer over his last three starts.
Saturday’s double-header will require a ton of energy from hitters on both sides, which should give these pitchers a major advantage. I like taking the under on the run total for Game 2, especially on DraftKings Sportsbook if you’re a new user. Their current sign-up promo pays out $150 in bonus bets instantly!
