3. Adam Duvall

Adam Duvall is one player whom the Red Sox should’ve traded at the deadline. They likely could’ve gotten a few solid prospects back for a veteran outfielder who’s batting .255 with nine HRs and 29 RBIs over 46 games (178 at-bats) in 2023.

Instead, Boston now runs the risk of losing the former MLB All-Star for nothing this winter. Duvall is set to hit free agency and could try to cash in on at least one more substantial payday.

No one can blame the 34-year-old if he tries to chase the bag. His performance this season puts him on pace for 32 HRs and 102 RBIs in a 162-game slate.

While Duvall is unlikely to reach those numbers due to a lengthy injury history, that’s not going to stop a desperate team from overpaying.

The Red Sox could easily pay a premium to keep him in town, but that would also be a lot of money for someone not even guaranteed to play two-thirds of the schedule.

Boston gave Duvall a chance to prove himself and he’s done so in his limited appearances. I won’t be shocked if he tries to cash in on that performance this offseason, leaving the Red Sox with a hole to fill.
