As fall approaches, Celtics fans are buzzing with excitement for upcoming NBA season. Boston is a title favorite, and for good reason, so this could be the beginning a very memorable year.

After a busy offseason, the Celtics faithful is anxious to see this new-look squad in action. Well, it turns out they won’t have to wait long.

Boston Celtics 2023 Preseason Schedule

The team announced its official 2023 NBA preseason schedule on Thursday. Boston is slated to play five exhibitions, beginning with a home game against the 76ers on Oct. 8. They then head on the road to face the Knicks (Oct. 9) and 76ers (Oct. 11) before returning to the Garden to play the Knicks once again (Oct. 17). The Celtics’ preseason slate ends on Oct. 19 with a road game against the Hornets.

This will be the first time Boston has played more than four preseason games since 2016, when Brad Stevens led the team to the No.1 seed in the East.

This group of contests will serve as the perfect warmup for a huge season. Boston’s reshaped rotation, which includes the arrival of Kristaps Porzingis, gets to test its mettle against another Eastern Conference contender in Philadelphia and face a stiff Knicks defense. With four total games against these tough foes, Joe Mazzulla will be able to identify any potential weaknesses early on and adjust ahead of the season-opener.

How to incorporate Porzingis into the offense is one major question Mazzulla and co. need to answer if this team is to live up to its Finals potential. They’ll also need to adjust to the loss of two defensive dogs in Marcus Smart and Grant Williams, who helped give this team an edge on the other side of the ball.

Meanwhile, it remains to be seen what new arrivals like veteran Oshae Brissett and rookie Jordan Walsh can contribute right away as well.

A big offseason means plenty to look forward to, even in preseason. Hopefully we see some of this squad’s changes pay immediate dividends before the regular season tips off.
