The Patriots gun for their first win of the 2023 NFL season when they host the Miami Dolphins for a Sunday Night Football matchup. Mike McDaniel’s squad is coming off of a huge 36-34 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, meaning New England must have all hands on deck for the AFC East rivalry game.

Before they welcome the Dolphins to Gillette Stadium, the Patriots announced two practice squad call-ups on Saturday afternoon: wide receiver: Jalen Ragor and linebacker Calvin Munson.

Patriots Roster Moves Week 2 vs. Dolphins

Reagor’s presence gives Mac Jones another much-needed weapon. Even though the gunslinger racked up 316 passing yards last week, our wide receivers only accounted for 146 of them while no one at the position outside of Kendrick Bourne had much of a standout showing.

His call-up also means that DeVante Parker (knee) might not be healthy enough to play just yet.

Having said that, I’m interested in seeing what Reagor does in a new environment. Drafted 21st overall in 2022, the 24-year-old couldn’t seem to put things together across three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and Minnesota Vikings, tallying just 72 catches for 799 yards and four touchdowns across 45 games.

On top of that, he’s a solid special teams contributor. He’s returned 61 career punts for an average of 8.0 yards and has even converted 12 kicks into an average of 21.3 yards.

Meanwhile, Munson is hardly a new face to the fanbase. The 28-year-old veteran defender is on his third stint with the Patriots and was a member of the practice squad when we won Super Bowl LIII.

Munson will likely be used on special teams for the second consecutive week. He played 14 special teams snaps in Week 1 (48%) and finished without a tackle. It’s also worth noting that he hasn’t played a defensive snap since the 2021 campaign.

At the end of the day, time will tell what kind of impact Reagor and Munson make this week. As it stands, the Patriots are the 2.5-point underdogs against the Dolphins in SNF, per DraftKings Sportsbook.
