5. Tyrone Wheatley Jr.

A few injuries headlined New England’s inactives this past week. However, backup left tackle Tyron Wheatley Jr. was the only other healthy scratch aside from Boutte.

Wheatley being sidelined was a bit of surprise, especially considering the offensive line’s health heading into the contest. Cole Strange and Michael Owenwu were both questionable, and Sow was already ruled out, so having Wheatley on standby could’ve made a ton of sense.

Instead, the coaching staff sat Wheatley after he was active for the team’s first two games. Looking at his usage, though, he might as well have been inactive. He played only 5 total snaps during those appearances, and none were on offense — instead being relegated to just special teams work.

It’s obvious Wheatley has a lot to do to carve out any legitimate role with the team right now. Considering he was missing in Week 3 and the team went on to win, perhaps they opt to not change anything up against the Cowboys.
