2. Kyle Finnegan, Closing Pitcher

With Chris Martin going to the Rangers and Kenley Jansen still unsigned, the Red Sox have some serious holes to fill in the bullpen. Boston cannot afford to have their bullpen get worse after finishing with a 4.39 bullpen ERA last season.

Tanner Scott, Kirby Yates and Carlos Estevez are off the free-agent board, leaving Kyle Finnegan as the best remaining closing pitcher on the market.

Finnegan pitched his best season on the final year of his deal with the Nationals, accumulating 38 saves and a 3.68 ERA en route to an All-Star selection for a lowly Washington team. His success in 2024 should lead him to a bigger contract wherever he chooses to sign.

While Liam Hendriks and Aroldis Chapman are added into the fold for the 2025 season, it remains to be seen who will close the majority of games for Boston. Adding Finnegan would give the Red Sox another arm in the late innings, as having too much depth in the bullpen is never a bad thing.

Finnegan has a 3-pitch arensal with a heavy dose of his 4-seam fastball, as well as a splitter and slider. He throws the fastball and splitter between 95-99mph.

Finnegan is on other teams radars as well, with reported interest from the Cubs, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Reds and Braves. It will be a competitive market for the 33-year-old, as he would be a nice addition to any team he chooses to sign with.

The Red Sox can't afford another season of blowing leads late in the game, as not suring up the bullpen came back to bite the Red Sox as the season went along. The starting rotation seems to be set, and adding Finnegan to the bullpen would help to improve on last years' struggles.
