3. Andrew Chafin, Relief Pitcher

The 34-year-old lefty should be another player on Breslow's radar as he is yet to find a home as of early February.

Across 11 seasons for 6 different franchises at the major league level, Chafin has a career 3.42 ERA and 555 strikeouts over 508 innings pitched. He would give the Red Sox bullpen another southpaw alongside Aroldis Chapman and Brennan Bernardino.

Chafin utilizes a 3-pitch aresnal with a slider, sinker and 4-seam fastball. He usually sits in the low-90s in terms of velocity and would give Boston another option to face lefties late in games.

In 2024, Chafin was traded from the Tigers to the Rangers at the deadline on July 30th. He logged 50 strikeouts in 41 appearances with the Tigers and then 20 strikeouts in 21 appearances with the Rangers. That 70 strikeout total is the most Chafin has recorded in a season since 2021, and is a sign that he still has some left in the tank at age 34.

Chafin would be able to take some weight off Chapman's shoulders as the season goes along, and would bring a veteran presence to what is a younger bullpen outside of Chapman and Hendriks.

Bringing in Chafin on a one-year deal would give the Red Sox some flexibility and experience in the bullpen, something they haven't had in a few seasons.
