3 Celtics Entering Their Final Season With Boston in 2024-25
3. Luke Kornet, C
Luke Kornet has been with the Celtics ever since he signed with the franchise midway through the 2021-22 season. While he doesn't garner the most attention, he's gone on to solidify himself as one of the NBA's better backup centers.
The 29-year-old veteran averaged 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks with a 70.0 FG% in 63 appearances with the Celtics last season. Although his role diminished in the playoffs, he still averaged 3.0 points and 3.2 rebounds while handling the occasional key matchup.
Nevertheless, Kornet heads into the 2024-25 NBA season on an expiring contract, leaving his future in Boston up in the air. Even though the Celtics like wouldn't mind bringing him back on another cheap contract, it's possible that another team could offer Kornet more money than general manager Brad Stevens is willing to match.
As solid as Kornet has been during his Celtics tenure, all good things must eventually come to an end. Unless he proves to be invaluable, it's too early to pencil him into the 2025-26 roster.
