The Boston Red Sox have woken up. Following prior offseasons in which they failed to up the ante on big-name free agents, they came to their senses and opened up the checkbook, signing Alex Bregman on a three-year, $120 million deal.

The Red Sox have made several moves to get back into the playoffs, including trading for Garrett Crochet and inking both Walker Buehler and Aroldis Chapman. With Spring Training games starting in just nine days and the roster almost complete for 2025 play, the Red Sox still need to pursue these three remaining free agents.

1. Justin Tuner, DH/3B

Although Justin Turner is 40 years old, he can still produce. Last season the former Red Sox had 11 home runs, 55 RBIs, batting .259 in 139 games for the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners. The Red Sox had shown interest in bringing back Turner just days before signing Bregman.

During Turner’s tenure on the 2023 Red Sox, he quickly became a fan-favorite and played a big role for the team, hitting 23 home runs, 96 RBIs, and batting .276 in 146 games. Despite his age, Turner can add depth for the Red Sox with his ability to either play at first base, third base, or as designated hitter.

With the Red Sox injury history over the last few years, Turner can be a useful addition that doesn’t have to play every day. Turner’s experience both being an All-Star and World Series champion can be used to help mentor and guide the young and upcoming players.
