3 Patriots on the Chopping Block Next After Josh Uche Trade
By Jovan Alford
2. Jonathan Jones, CB
The veteran cornerback could be one of the next defensive players traded by the Pats. Jones is in the final year of a two-year, $19 million deal he signed in Mar. 2023, making him an intriguing option for contending teams looking to add a veteran defender in the secondary.
The 31-year-old Jones has started in every game this season, except Sunday’s contest against the Jets. The veteran defensive back played 48 percent of defensive snaps despite not starting.
Jones has produced 28 combined tackles, three pass deflections, and a forced fumble in eight games. The 5-foot-9 cornerback hasn’t fared the best in pass coverage this year, logging a 69.6 completion percentage allowed on targets, a 114.4 pass rating, and giving up a receiving TD.
However, the Patriots' defense doesn’t get much pressure on the quarterback (42 – fifth worst in the NFL), which puts a lot of strain on the secondary to cover.
That said, Jones doesn’t have the ideal size to play the boundary. But he’s the perfect option to slide into the slot.
We haven’t heard much about the cornerback trade market, as all the attention has been paid to the wide receiver spot. But do not be surprised if Jones is on the move as New England looks to get more draft capital for 2025 and 2026.
