3 Realistic Celtics Trade Targets at the Deadline
By Ryan Markham
3. Eric Gordon, SG, 76ers
The 36-year-old Gordon has been one of the NBA's more underrated three-point shooters during his 17-year NBA career. Most known for his time with the Rockets alongside James Harden and Chris Paul, Gordon has played for the Clippers, Pelicans, Rockets, Suns, and now the 76ers.
This may not be a name that has been linked with the Celtics, but after looking at Gordon's ability and the situation the 76ers are in, it makes more and more sense.
For one, the 76ers are having a very disappointing season, with Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Paul George only playing 10 games together. Philadelphia sits at 18-27, right outside the play-in as of late January. Of course, there is still time to turn things around, but that starts with Embiid getting back on the court.
Due to the injuries plaguing the 76ers, Gordon has been stepping in and filling his role nicely, averaging 6.9 points and shooting 40.2% from three in nearly 20 minutes per game. He wouldn't need to play as much for Boston and would provide a sniper from the shooting guard position alongside Payton Pritchard off the bench.
It is safe to say a championship is more attainable in Boston rather than in Philadelphia, as Gordon has yet to win despite multiple successful seasons with Houston. Brad Stevens and Co. should look into Gordon as the deadline approaches, as he would add yet another shooter to the arsenal, with an exceptional resume of playoff experience.
Gordon signed a 2-year, $6.7 million contract with the Sixers this past offseason and is making only $3.3 million this season. His contract includes a 2025-26 player option as well.
