Ja’Whaun Bentley, Linebacker

Three seasons ago, Ja’Whaun Bentley anchored the middle of a top-12 defense, recording 125 tackles, 3 sacks, and an interception.

Fast forward two years, and Bentley may be on the outs in New England following the hire of coach Vrabel. According to Bleacher Report, Vrabel could look to bring in an off-ball linebacker to put in the middle of his defense. If that is the case, a player like Bentley, who is more of a run-stuffer, may not be of use anymore.

In addition, Bentley comes with injury concerns after only playing in two games this past season before suffering a season-ending torn pec.

Aside from a change in scheme and his injury history, if the Patriots were to cut ties with Bentley, the team could save $4.6 million if they cut him after June 1st per Over The Cap.
