4 Patriots that Fans Will Be Happy to See Leave in Free Agency
The New England Patriots handed over jobs to Jerod Mayo and Eliot Wolf this past offseason after they parted ways with Bill Belichick.
Everyone knew this season was going to be a transition year for the team. The Patriots will once again have a top-five selection in the 2025 NFL Draft, as they seek to rebuild the foundation of the team. During the 2024 NFL Draft, the Pats added Drake Maye, who looks like a franchise QB. That, of course, wasn't enough to save Mayo's job.
It's not only the head coach spot that needs to be improved either, the rest of the roster needs work too. The team will look different next season. Free agency begins in March, and there will be a lot of movement along the roster. Below, we'll discuss four players that fans will be happy to see walk in free agency.
1. JaMycal Hasty
Running back JaMycal Hasty came into the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2020 and signed with the San Francisco 49ers. He spent time with the 49ers and Jacksonville Jaguars before getting claimed off waivers by the Pats in 2023.
During the 2023 season, Hasty appeared in two games for New England and contributed to special teams. He had more of a role for New England this season. Across 15 games, Hasty logged 69 rushing yards, 59 receiving yards, and one touchdown. As a kick returner, he has 238 yards.
The Baylor product is going to be a free agent and his time with New England will likely come to an end.
Rhamondre Stevenson and Antonio Gibson are both signed through 2026 and have been more productive with this group. The Pats aren't going to re-sign a player that can easily be replaced in free agency or the NFL Draft.
In his career, Hasty has never rushed 200 yards in a season, with a career-long 30 yards returned on a kickoff. This production isn't good enough to keep him around going forward.
