4 Patriots Who Will Be Cut Without a Strong Second Half of Season

Several New England Patriots have struggled to make an impact this season. If that doesn't change in the second half, these four players could be cut this offseason.

2. Tyquan Thornton, WR

Sticking on the topic of struggling wideouts, Tyquan Thornton has also left much to be desired in 2024.

The oft-injured receiver has, once again, struggled to remain in the Patriots' lineup, suiting up for only six of the team's first nine games. Thornton has now only played 28 games out of 43 possible appearances since he was drafted 50th overall by New England in 2022.

It'd be one thing if the 24-year-old made the most of his (limited) playing time, but that hasn't been the case. Thornton's hands have proven to be unreliable as he's only caught 4-of-8 targets (50.0%) for 47 receiving yards without a touchdown and a 28.6 passer rating when targeted.

To put things into perspective, Drake Maye would record a 39.6 passer rating if he did nothing but throw a football into the ground all game. That's how bad of a target Thornton has been in Year 3.

Thornton has been on thin ice for quite some time now and the cracks are growing bigger as he continues to struggle at the NFL level. If he can't find a way to salvage the current season, it wouldn't be shocking if the Patriots decide to finally send him packing in the spring.
