Training camp around the league is going into its second week. Things are heading into another gear since pads are coming on, and the New England Patriots saw star cornerback Christian Gonzalez walk off the field with a leg injury on Monday. CB Marcellas Dial stepped up in his absence and played well with the increased reps.
While that is how the second week of practice started for New England, a former kicker landed a workout with the New York Jets. According to Brian Costello of the New York Post, former New England kicker Nick Folk had a tryout with the Jets on Monday. Costello added that Folk played for New York from 2010 to 2016.
The Jets had an old friend in for a tryout today - kicker Nick Folk, per sources. Folk kicked for the Jets from 2010-16.

Former Patriots Kicker Nick Folk Tries Out for Jets on Monday
Meanwhile, Folk suited for the Pats between 2019-2022. In those outings, he went 108-of-121 (89.3%) on field goal attempts and 116-of-127 (91.3%) on extra point attempts.
He proved to be a solid option and could be in line to return within the AFC East. The Jets have two rookies in Caden Davis and Harrison Mevis, participating in a kicking competition during camp, but Davis has struggled a bit. Over the last two practices, Mevis is 10-of-10 with Davis going 8-of-10, including a miss from 38 yards in Monday's session.
It appears that Davis is falling behind in the comp, and Folk could be brought in as the seasoned vet. If he wants to land a deal in New York, he would have to beat out these guys, but he has the experience to feel confident in doing so.
Over the last two seasons in Tennessee, Folk has led the league in field goal percentage (96.7% in 2023 & 95.5% in 2024), going a combined 50-of-52 on field goals and 11-of-12 from 50-plus yards away. Even though he's 40 years old, that doesn't affect him much as a kicker. The past two campaigns clearly showed that he can still be an effective kicker at a high level.
It'll be interesting to see if Folk lands a deal with the Jets, as they are looking for more consistency at the position. Having a reliable kicker goes such a long way in the NFL and can be the difference between wins and losses.
If he does sign with the Jets, the Pats would see their former kicker twice during the 2025 season, with the first contest coming in Week 11 on a Thursday Night Football showdown.
