5 Bruins On Thin Ice to Start 2024-25 Season

The Boston Bruins have experienced mixed results to begin the 2024-25 NHL season. As a result, these five players have already found themselves on thin ice.

The Boston Bruins' offense was nowhere to be found against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. The Bruins ended their three-game road trip with a 4-0 loss at Bridgestone Arena, marking the Predators' first victory of the 2024-25 NHL season in the process.

The loss marked the Bruins' third defeat in their last four games, highlighting their inability to find consistency early in the campaign. Boston is now 3-3-1 heading into Thursday's matchup with the Dallas Stars and head coach Jim Montgomery must find a way to get his team back on track if they want to turn things around soon.

While certain Bruins have tried their best to help the organization find success, others have done more harm than good to begin the season. As a result, these five Boston players have found themselves skating on thin ice.

With Jeremy Swayman poised to be the franchise goaltender, the Bruins traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators during the offseason. Coming back Boston's way was a first-round pick, Mark Kastellic (who's looked great on the fourth line), and netminder Joonas Korpisalo.

Expectations were relatively low upon Korpisalo's arrival following an uneventful 2023-24 campaign with the Senators. The Finnish veteran didn't look like a starting goalie more often than not, going 21-26-4 with a .890 save percentage and 3.27 goals-against average.

Some Bruins fans hoped a change in scenery could help the 30-year-old puck-stopper, but that hasn't been the case. In his first two Boston appearances, Korpisalo surrendered nine goals on just 60 shots, resulting in a .850 SV% and 4.57 GAA. Even though that's a small sample size, his early performances paint him as an unreliable backup should Swayman ever miss time.

Making matters worse is that Korpisalo is under contract through the 2027-28 season. If he doesn't start to turn things around quickly, he might not come close to finishing that contract in Boston.
