5 Bruins On Thin Ice to Start 2024-25 Season

The Boston Bruins have experienced mixed results to begin the 2024-25 NHL season. As a result, these five players have already found themselves on thin ice.

3. Morgan Geekie, RW/C

The Bruins signed Morgan Geekie to a two-year, $4 million contract ahead of the 2023-24 NHL season. The former 2017 third-rounder showed glimpses of potential during his time with the Carolina Hurricanes and Seattle Kraken, however, the hope was that he could finally put everything together in Boston.

Taking a risk on Geekie ended up paying off tenfold in Year 1 of his contract. The ex-Tri-City product tallied career-highs in goals (17), assists (22), and points (39) in 76 games with the Bruins, even carving an important role out for himself on the power play. He then went on to add four goals and an assist in 13 playoff appearances.

Much to the frustration of many Bruins fans, Geekie has yet to look like the same player this season. The 26-year-old forward is pointless through six games while playing to a minus-4 plus/minus rating. He's averaging twice as many giveaways per game as he did in 2023-24 and has seen his time on ice drop by two minutes compared to last year.

Geekie is slated to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season. In other words, it's in his best interest to turn up his intensity if he wants to remain with the Bruins. Otherwise, it wouldn't be shocking if they attempted to move him ahead of the trade deadline.
