5 Bruins On Thin Ice to Start 2024-25 Season

The Boston Bruins have experienced mixed results to begin the 2024-25 NHL season. As a result, these five players have already found themselves on thin ice.

5. Charlie Coyle, C

Charlie Coyle is another Bruins veteran who had a breakout performance in 2023-24. The ex-2010 first-round selection appeared in all 82 regular-season games, amassing 25 goals and 60 points before adding another five points in 13 postseason contests, cementing himself as one of Boston's best players.

But just like Zacha, Coyle is off to a slow start this fall.

The East Weymouth, MA native has only tallied a goal without an assist so far. He's only registered six shots on goal in the first seven games and has seen his faceoff percentage plummet from 51.6% to 42.2%. His playing time has also been affected by his struggles, resulting in just 16:08 TOI on Tuesday — his second-fewest minutes of the season.

On one hand, Coyle still has two seasons remaining on the $31.5 million contract he signed a few years ago. While certain Bruins fans wouldn't mind seeing him finish his deal in Boston, that sentiment will dwindle if his issues persist. If he can't get things going, it wouldn't be a surprise if management considered trading him for someone who could be a more effective contributor.
