4. Jacoby Brissett

To be clear, Jacoby Brissett has done almost everything that has been asked of him. The plan with the veteran quarterback was always evident. Brissett – a nine-year journeyman – would handle starting quarterback duties until rookie third-overall pick Drake Maye was deemed ready to be handed the keys. Brissett was expected as a true pro to help mentor Maye and do his part in developing Maye into a future franchise quarterback.

Brissett started New England's first five games of the season and led the team to a 1-4 record until Maye took over in Week 6 against the Houston Texans. When Maye was forced out of a Week 8 divisional matchup against the New York Jets with a concussion, Brissett came into the game in relief and led the Patriots to a surprising last-minute 25-22 win. If including that Jets relief appearance, Brissett has been the quarterback for two of New England's three wins this season.

In late October, Brissett was asked if felt that he was still an NFL starting-caliber quarterback, replying "that's very easy".

Brissett's belief that he could still earn a starting role could shed some light on his future with the organization. Maye has clearly established himself as New England's starting signal-caller moving forward, so that door is closed with the Patriots. Brissett signed a one-year deal to return to the team that drafted him in 2016, so it wouldn't be surprising if he decides to pursue an opportunity with a team where he could compete for a starting gig.
