With legal sports betting going live in Massachusetts in August 2022, fans have been able to bet on their Boston Red Sox for two years now. A disappointing couple of past seasons made this less profitable than fans might like, but the Sox have been turning it around in 2024 and interest is building.

With several of the industry’s best sportsbooks like FanDuel, DraftKings, BetMGM and others available in MA, sports bettors have multiple options to wager on the Red Sox.

This Week’s Odds

With 162 regular-season games, there are plenty of opportunities to bet on Boston throughout the season.

Here are the latest odds for the Red Sox:

Boston Red Sox World Series and Playoff Odds

If you have any kind of long-term hope for the Red Sox, you can also bet on their odds to win the World Series or make the playoffs.

Boston Red Sox Prop Bets

One fun way to wager on the Red Sox is through player prop bets, which is when you wager on individual players to go over or under their projected statistical output. For example, you could bet on Rafael Devers to hit a home run or Tanner Houck to go over or under a certain number of strikeouts.

This is a good way to bet on your favorite players and win money when they perform well. It’s also a good alternative to standard bets like the moneyline or the spread if you’re unsure about how the game will turn out.

2024 Boston Red Sox Offseason Moves

Key additions: Tyler O’Neil,  Lucas Giolito, Liam Hendricks, Chase Anderson

Key losses: Justin Turner, Alex Verdugo, Chris Sale, Corey Kluber

This was a big offseason for the Red Sox. Fans were generally unhappy with the direction the team took — losing key pieces and not bringing back a ton of exciting outside help (especially considering marquee signing Lucas Gioltio is missing the season).

Chris Sale returning to All-Star form with the Atlanta Braves, for example, would be an incredibly bitter pill to swallow if not for the success the Sox have found so far in 2024.

Internal development has been the key to this year’s success, with Tyler O’Neill being one of the few key 2024 contributors who wasn’t on the 2023 roster.

How to Bet on the Boston Red Sox

The sportsbooks in Massachusetts have a seemingly endless array of options to bet on Boston. Keep reading for more in-depth information on the different ways you can wager on the Red Sox.

Moneyline

Picking a team to win on the moneyline is the most simple form of sports betting because you’re just betting on one side to win a game outright.

Moneyline bets have a minus symbol (-) for teams that are favored (expected to win) and a plus symbol for the underdogs (expected to lose). The number that comes directly after each symbol, which is usually greater than or equal to 100, indicates how much money you stand to win.

For example, if you wager $100 on Boston at +130 odds (small underdogs) on the moneyline and they win, you’d get $130 in profit along with your $100 stake back. If you bet $100 on the Red Sox at -120 odds (small favorites) and they win, you’d earn $83.33 in profits (100 divided by 120).

Run Line

The run line is baseball’s version of a spread.

When you bet on the run line, you usually either bet on the favored team to cover a -1.5 spread or the underdog to cover a +1.5 spread. There are also usually alternate run lines available with different amounts, however, if you think a team will win or lose by more than two runs.

Run Totals

This is the baseball equivalent of an over/under.

When you bet on a run total, you are usually wagering on the total amount of runs that will be scored in the game by both teams combined, i.e. over or under 9.5 total runs. You can also bet on how many runs each team will score individually as well, i.e. the Red Sox scoring more than 4.5 runs.

Team and Player Props & Futures

There are many more ways to bet on Boston than just wagering on who will win the game or how many total runs will be scored. You can also bet on just about every statistic that a player could produce in a box score, from runs and hits for batters to strikeouts and earned runs for pitchers.

Here are some examples of common player prop bets:

  • Trevor Story Over 0.5 Hits (-250)
  • Jarren Duran To Record an RBI (+120)
  • Brayan Bello 6+ Strikeouts (-135)

You can also combine multiple prop bets or prop bets with other wagers to build a same-game parlay with longer odds, giving you a higher payout if every leg (individual bet) cashes.

Futures bets are wagers that won’t be settled until the end of the season. These include bets on award winners (MVP, Cy Young, etc.), division winners, season win totals, season-long statistical leaders in certain categories (home runs, RBIs, etc.) and the World Series champion.

Fenway Park

Opened in 1912, Fenway Park is the oldest park in the major leagues, preceding Wrigley Field by two years. That means that as of 2024, Fenway Park is 112 years old!

While the park has been renovated and updated over the years, it still looks quite similar to the original stadium from 1912. Fenway is known for its asymmetrical outfield that’s full of nooks and crannies, resulting in unusual dimensions with short distances down the foul lines but deep power alleys in the gaps and center field.

Of course, Fenway’s most notable feature is its towering wall in left field. Known as the “Green Monster,” this 37-foot green wall is an inviting target for power hitters.

While most sports teams have a distinct home-field advantage, that’s especially true of the Red Sox, as they are much more familiar with their old park’s many idiosyncrasies than out-of-town visitors. Fenway is also regarded as a hitting-friendly park thanks to its lack of foul ground and close wall in left field, making it a good park for singles and doubles.
