The New England Patriots enter the 2024-25 NFL season staring down a rebuild, rather than hoping to make a quick return to championship form. After four disappointing seasons since Tom Brady’s departure, the team’s current direction has made the fanbase anxious.

A massive overhaul, from GM to head coach to starting quarterback, gives fans hope in a new beginning starting in 2024. This upcoming campaign is shaping up to be an all-important one for the future of this franchise.

Here’s how Patriots fans can support their favorite team on the betting markets this season.

The legalization of sports betting in the state of Massachusetts means that Patriots fans will be able to wager on their favorite team for the second straight NFL season.

This exciting change certainly adds some extra spice to football Sundays in New England. Before diving straight in, though, it’s crucial to get a good understanding of the local betting scene.

The NFL’s 18-week, 17-game schedule for the 2024 season provides ample chances for New England sports fans to bet on the Patriots. Check out the odds and best sign-up offers for the Pats’ next matchup below:

New England Patriots Super Bowl & playoff odds

The Patriots find themselves primarily ranked in the back half of the league for preseason odds to win the Super Bowl at most sportsbooks, but there’s plenty of time for that to change. You can keep up to date with New England’s Super Bowl, AFC East and playoff chances here:

New England Patriots prop bets

Patriots fans know their team’s roster up and down, and that can lead to some nice payouts through player prop bets. These wagers often involve betting on an individual player’s performances (for example betting on Rhamondre Stevenson to rush for more or less than a certain yardage total).

Other popular prop bet varieties involve betting on specific players to score touchdowns or betting on which team will score first.

2024 New England Patriots offseason moves

  • Key Additions: QB Drake Maye, WR Ja’Lynn Polk, RB Antonio Gibson, HC Jerod Mayo
  • Key losses: OT Trent Brown, TE Mike Gesicki, QB Mac Jones, HC Bill Belichick

Considering the Patriots will head into the 2024-25 season with a new head coach, new GM and new starting quarterback, this team won’t actually feel all that unfamiliar to fans.

The Patriots re-signed most of their key free agents (with the exception of Trent Brown), and the vast majority of the starting lineup will be players returning from the 2023 roster. Of course, that’s not necessarily a good thing for a team that finished 4-13.

This keeps expectations relatively low for Jerod Mayo and Drake Maye (whenever he does take the starting job from Jacoby Brissett). There won’t be immense pressure to immediately make the playoffs or anything, though Patriots fans will certainly be hoping that Maye looks good out of the gate and carries the team back to the postseason.

How to bet on the New England Patriots

Thanks to legal sports betting, there are a ton of different sportsbooks and wagers for Patriots fans to check out. We’ll break down the most common bets and markets that are available below:

Moneyline

A moneyline bet is the most simple for beginners to understand. Its sole focus is on who will win the game. There will be a favorite (which is often denoted by a “-” before the odds), and an underdog (which likely features a “+” before their odds).

Let’s say the Patriots are playing the Cleveland Browns next. New England is listed at -130 on the moneyline, while Cleveland is +120. That means the Patriots are favorites, and bettors will need to risk $130 in this case to win $100 from a NE victory. On the flip side, the Browns are underdogs, so a $100 bet on them would result in a $120 payout (plus the original $100 back) if they get the W.

Point spread

A point spread is focused on the margin of victory/defeat in a game. This market gives bettors more flexibility than something like a moneyline, where you’re just choosing the winner or loser. It can also return value on teams expected to lose games, as opposed to a moneyline bet, which doesn’t pay out for losses.

Keeping with the Patriots-Browns example, if a sportsbook lists New England as -2.5 on the spread, that means the Pats are 2.5-point favorites. In order to cash this bet, the Patriots would need to win by more than 2.5 points (so 3-plus points). Cleveland would be listed as in the inverse of this (+2.5 points) for its spread, so the Browns will need to lose by 2 points or fewer (or win the game) to pay out.

Point totals (over/under)

An NFL point total is solely concerned with the total points scored in a given matchup. A “total” is set for the combined points scored by both teams. Bettors can then choose the over (more points will be scored) or under (fewer points will be scored).

If the total is 39.5 points, for example, then a 21-17 win for the Patriots would hit the under (38 points scored), while a 24-20 loss would hit the over, with 44 total points scored.

Team & player props, futures

Player and team props, along with futures, are some of the most fun bets offered by sportsbooks. The former involves a proposition, such as how many touchdowns a team will score in a given game, if a quarterback will throw an interception, or how many catches a player will make in a game. These wagers may involve betting on a simple yes or no answer, a specific number out of a list, or an over/under.

For example, if Mac Jones is in the middle of a turnover-centric stretch and playing a ball-hawking secondary in his next game, it could be wise to back “yes” on a prop involving him throwing an INT during that contest. Similarly, if Hunter Henry is facing a defense known for stopping tight ends, betting the under on his yards total may be the smart play.

Futures, meanwhile, are predicated on predicting down-the-line outcomes like major awards, division champions or the winner of the Super Bowl. These odds will shift significantly once the season is underway, so there’s plenty of value to be found in the summer before games kick off.

Gillette Stadium

The New England Patriots have played their home games at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts since 2002. This venue was constructed to replace the old Foxboro Stadium, which hosted the team since 1971 — its second year as an NFL franchise. The stadium is owned and operated by The Kraft Group. It boasts a capacity of 65,878 for NFL games.

The Pats’ first-ever game at Gillette Stadium was a 30-14 win against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 9, 2002. Though its cold climate has prevented any Super Bowls from being held here, the venue has hosted seven AFC Championship Games, the most recent of which was in 2018.

In addition to the Patriots, Gillette Stadium also serves as host of Major League Soccer’s New England Revolution. The facility will be one of several used when the 2026 FIFA World Cup is held in North America.

New England Patriots TV & Radio coverage

As one of the NFL’s winningest franchises, it’s no shock the Patriots receive plenty of love from the league’s network partners. CBS, FOX, NBC, NFL Network and Prime Video are all set to broadcast Pats games at various points during the 2024 season.

New England fans will primarily be able to watch the Patriots on their local CBS or FOX stations channels this season. However, the Pats will also play at least one primetime game, as well as a standalone game in England.
